I am from the trees,
limbs scattered on the earth
that crack and warn
with woodland whispers
when the seek
has come to find the hide.
I am from a banker’s
maternal miscalculation,
the explosion of a human plum
fallen from a thousand dollar landscape,
a seedy blot on a cement driveway.
I am from discarded love poems,
abandoned library shelves,
a coffee table commodity.
I am from loud indoor voices,
spelling drills and a nervous spoon
downing cherry delight,
my mother’s beautiful
dessert.
